Not too long ago, before the Internet and fancy websites like this, if you wanted to learn or hear about something new and cool you had to listen to the radio. It’s just the way it was unless you wanted to live in the dark and remain clueless.
As for me, I’ve always been interested listening to the radio whether it’s my favorite music station or just plain talk. There’s something about a live FM signal that makes you feel connected as a listener. I’ve been a listener of KXLU 88.9 FM as long as I can remember. This radio station has been broadcasting live from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA, for 50 years. It has always been my alternative to commercial radio and this station plays way better music still to this day.
A good friend of mine, Donald Andrews, has a radio show on Saturday night called "55 Shades Of Blue" that he’s been doing for a few years now. Recently he invited me to be a guest on his show and he always lets me pick the playlist for the night. Actually, this is the fourth time I’ve been a guest on his show, and every time I’ve had a different theme. This time the theme was to play "The Essentials," and I guess it’s my way of saying what’s been important and influenced me throughout my life. The show ended up being a lot of fun, playing vinyl records and talking about our work and other things. Instead of me trying to explain to you, why don’t you just kick back and listen to the show for yourself. Enjoy! —Rick Kosick
